before it melts

i better catch up on posting these snow shots before the sun melts it all away. it has been a true Winter Wonderland and Little A is truly a snow kid as is his papa - those two have been having a blast out there. Aside from having some essential tools (shovel & sled), proper attire is key to enjoying snow to the fullest. Finally, this year, we are prepared. His first layer of silk and wool arrived in the mail the same day it snowed and snowed. The right size snow pants hung in the closet, waiting, 1 month in advance. Little A could wash dishes with his mitts and still have warm dry hand. His locally designed, fleece lined rain coat has worked well to keep him toasty and again, dry. i was bummed not to find Sorels in youth sizes and found myself scrambling to find something suitable…and then i remembered that at the end of last year i purchased some 2nd hand Naturino boots and they have been perfect (and warm with his Wigwams). Guaranteed to be warm and dry, my bundled boy heads out the door where he could, and has, played for hours in the deep deep snow.

While we have kept close to home and ventured out only on foot or by sled, others have been more brave to venture further for a visit.  it’s always nice to see you grandma (and grandpa) D. We hope you didn’t get stuck in the snow again.

  2. Hi Ella,

I really like the red/white contrast and enjoy visiting your blog.

We might come up to Canada sometime next year. May I asked for some good places to go?

Take care and have some more of those cozy days (the pictures of your home remind me so much of ours back in Germany)

  4. Love it - our snow is pretty much gone, it was such a winter wonderland. Love the snowman shot. Sounds like you were really ready for the snow, I had a good jacket, but we got away with an extra layer of pj’s under his jeans and rain boots. Daddy and B had a lot of sledding time over here too.

  5. lovely. red coat is picturesque. Since we are old pros at winter weather dressing for j’s outdoor school - I appreciated the link sharing. We have those woolies in all sizes and our most prized item is the balaclava from ruskovilla. I also have a new source I really love called icebreaker. great quality and nice colors for woolies.
    smartwool socks all the way.
The big hole in our outfit is gloves. I like handknit, but jack likes a real working glove. We found garden gloves are nice fit. But jack also like/needs the fingerless mittens with covers - to work in all day at school. And it’s really hard to find those in kid sizes. Gap sometimes has them - but looking for better source.
But - seriously, how great is snowy weather, whatever the gear.

  7. I have been so busy lately that I haven’t had a chance to read my favorite blogs. It was nice to take a minute to sit down and see how lovely and cozy your season has been. The snow has been great hasn’t it? Do you mind telling me where you got that drum set? I think I’ve seen it before, but I can’t put my finger on it. Your home also looks beautiful. Happy New Year to you and your family.

  8. We were in Vancouver for the first snow. So fun, wish the time wasn’t so short…next time a visit! Your home always looks so inviting. P.S. I love to drink tea.
