grade one is done

celebrations, waldorf learning and living | Thursday, June 14th, 2012

There have been so many changes in my not so little boy this year. To many i have confessed that 7 has been the most challenging year for me as a parent thus far and it’s true that much of the challenge continues… still i try to find my grace and patience to be the parent i long to be. Sass aside, my boy is pretty awesome and i am so proud of his accomplishments in play and work throughout grade 1. Going into it he said he didn’t need to go to school because he already knew his letters and numbers and was self taught reading and creative in play… he was pleasantly surprised to discover that there are many other ways of learning and many more games and stories than the ones i remember and that other children are fun to be around….on the whole Grade 1 was a huge success! We’ve spent much of our first day of Summer break going through his main lesson books which are now tucked away. Here’s just a few favorites;

  1. Oh, mama. Thanks for sharing these grade onies. So sweet. I’m especially fond of the long strong bodies in the forms I see here. Hm, I wonder if he has a tall and grounded mama? :) As I type I am sitting next to a stack of grade 3 treasures. I’ll have get snapping before tucking ours away. What a bittersweet time of year. My Indigo is excited for summer but will miss his friends so.
    Enjoy the first days of the new rhythm!

  2. Oh, those main lesson books are always such a treat (speaking as an aunt). I look forward to seeing my kids first stash of them…a wonderful record of the school year. Though, I have to say, I’m not in too much of a rush to see them….Kinder is pretty cool!

  3. How wonderful to see what they do all year! Hurray for little A, I’m so glad it was as success, and beautiful books. Our Eurythmy teacher Miss Plewa is moving to your side of the water, enjoy her, she is lovely:)

  7. Um, if those are his drawings, he is fantastic. Really talented!! His writing is very neat as well. I am the mother of a near 9 year old and I remember first grade/age 7 was such a hard time for us as well. It gets better, keep doing what you do. Love your blog, always!
