Dr. Thara
i heard “What mommy?” about 100 times these past few days before i realized that his ears were so blocked with wax that he likely couldn’t hear very well. i tried homeopathic silica but i’m talking serious wax - like i don’t know how or why his body made so much…

…so off to Dr. Thara for a little ear exam , lavage and balance play. Vancouverites may find the playful, knowledgeable, respectful, awesome with kids and families, Thara Vayali ND at 213-1529 West 6th Avenue. Explore her web page here.

sweet - especially that last photo! Did she clear the wax out, and if so, I am curious how? I have always wondered what creates ear wax, and why sometimes there is so much more than other times… and sometimes it is so much darker in color than other times. I should do a little research.

i wonder too why would the wax build up? i always feel that our bodies are clever to work that sort of thing out so why in my 2.5 year old who doesn’t use Q tips or stick his fingers in his ears have this much wax apparently blocking the ear canal? he’s had a cold and sniffles and mentioned a couple of times to me that his 1 ear felt blocked - i’ve seen kids with ear wax but this was some serious nuggets. Thara did an ear lavage with an ear syringe in the 1 ear that was most blocked. a lot came out! and there is still more that is now wet and loosened and should work it’s way out in the next few days. Little M was most compliant and also said when he was “all done”. if he wants to do the other ear later, so we shall. If he were older and more likely to sit still i would go for the curette which is what Thara used to take out a very large chunk of wax after Little A’s ear drum ruptured last year (can’t use water with a ruptured ear drum!!) fascinating stuff. heading over to wikipedia now…
